Cedar Falls Community Mental Health Night set with psychotherapist, author Lynn Lyons

Apr. 16—CEDAR FALLS — The Cedar Falls Community School District will welcome renowned psychotherapist and author Lynn Lyons on Thursday for a Community Mental Health Night talk.

She'll help parents navigate the complexities of childhood anxiety, stress, and social pressures during the free event, "Modeling Matters: What Parents Need to Know (and Do) to Decrease Stress, Worry, and Anxiety" scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Cedar Falls High School auditorium, 1015 Division St.

The first 50 attendees will receive a copy of Lyons' book, "Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents," compliments of the Cedar Falls Schools Foundation. There will be 30 minutes allotted for questions and answers.

"We understand the urgency of supporting our youths' mental health, especially in today's complex world," said Tara Estep, executive director of enrichment and special programs at Cedar Falls Schools. "This event is a testament to our commitment to providing our community with the resources and guidance necessary to nurture resilient, emotionally healthy children."

A seasoned expert with more than 30 years of clinical experience, Lyons will delve into the current landscape of youth mental health, providing attendees with insights gleaned from the latest research.

With a focus on proactive intervention, she will address common pitfalls that adults encounter when addressing mental health issues in children, offering tangible strategies to mitigate stressors and foster resilience.
